CIRCUS THEATRICALS LAUNCHES THE NEW AMERICAN SCREENPLAY CONTEST
Grand Prize Short Screenplay winner will be produced in Hollywood,Grand Prize Feature winner wins cash and other prizes.
November 30, 2009 – Award-winning and critically-acclaimed theatre company Circus Theatricals announces the launching of The New American Screenplay Contest. Established to support both emerging and established screenwriters from around the world, the contest has a short and a feature category. The Grand Prize Short Screenplay winner will be produced in Hollywood, and the Grand Prize Feature winner wins cash and other prizes. Scripts will be judged by a panel of industry experts. The contest is now receiving entries through April 15, 2010.
"The New American Screenplay Contest seems like a logical step for our company, says Circus Theatricals artistic director Jack Stehlin. We have spent the past 25 years supporting and developing playwrights, especially through our annual short play festival. I am very proud of what we are trying to achieve with our screenplay competition and I'm excited about the panel of judges who’ve come on board.”The panel of judges for the 2010 contest includes “ The Twilight Saga: New Moon” director Chris Weitz ; international film, stage and television actor Alfred Molina (“Spiderman 2”, “Frida”, “Boogie Nights”) ; director/producer David Trainer (“That ‘70’s Show”, “Designing Women”); Producer Simon Mirren (“Criminal Minds”); Vice President, Casting, CBS Paramount Network Television Matt Skrobalak ; and Actor/Director/Producer Jack Stehlin (DEA Captain Roy Till on Showtime’s “Weeds,”) Circus Theatricals.
The New American Screenplay Contest is now receiving entries for the 2010 competition. The early deadline for entries is January 15, 2010 and the final closing deadline is April 15, 2010.
