Short Screenplay Official Rules
  1. Entry into this competition confirms each entrant's acceptance of these rules and regulations.
  2. If a screenplay has been previously optioned or sold, the author must be able to prove that the screenplay is no longer restricted under that sale or option.
  3. Previously produced screenplays are not eligible.
  4. In the event an entry is produced, optioned or sold after being submitted to the contest, the author(s) must notify us IMMEDIATELY.
  5. The New American Screenplay Contest is open to writers of any nationality from any country.
  6. The New American Screenplay Contest is open to all people 18 years of age and older. Misrepresentation of age, upon discovery by the New American Screenplay Contest will disqualify the applicable entrant.
  7. The competition is open to all genres.
  8. All scripts must be in English.
  9. All scripts must be registered with ONE of the following: Writers Guild (www.wga.org), ProtectRite (www.protectrite.com) OR the U.S. Copyright Office (www.copyright.gov).
  10. Multiple scripts may be entered but each script must have its own entry form, entry fee and release form.
  11. Screenplay submissions must be the original work of the entrant(s). Adaptations and material based in any way on other media for which the author does not have the rights will be disqualified.
  12. Substitutions of new drafts or corrected pages will not be accepted once the submission has been made.
  13. Scripts based on a true story, historical or contemporary, should be annotated on the title page.
  14. The winners will be chosen by a panel of judges. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence nor discussion will be entered into.
  15. All entrants acknowledge that neither the judges nor the sponsors or any partners mentioned here on this site or any other publication will be held responsible for any and all disputes between you and the New American Screenplay Contest.
  16. The Contest organizers reserve the right to reject any entry for any reason at their absolute discretion.
  17. The Contest organizers reserve the right to appoint any director, producer, cast and crew to the winning script.
  18. The New American Screenplay Contest and Circus Theatricals Foundation will be the producers of the winning screenplay.
  19. If the Grand Prize Winner is disqualified, The New American Screenplay Contest reserves the right to select a new winner from the list of previously selected Finalists for the corresponding cycle.
  20. All scripts must be written in standard 12 point font. Scripts with smaller fonts will be disqualified.
  21. All entrants acknowledge that the final winner will be expected to make a standard form of assignment of all rights in the finished work to The New American Screenplay Contest and Circus Theatricals Foundation and provide a waiver of so called “moral rights”.
  22. No entries will be received after April 30, 2010
  23. Collaborative work is accepted. Select one of the writing partners as the prime contact for all mailings. Writing partners selected as winners will divide the award equally.
  24. The script/entry must have title page containing: the title, author's name, E-mail address, phone number and home address. 
  25. The writer's name must not appear anywhere within the body of the screenplay.
  26. Short Script submissions must be: short film (narrative); 5-65 pages (or 5 to 40 minutes).
  27. Entering the competition constitutes permission to use the winners' names and licenses for publicity and promotions without any additional compensation.
  28. All entries must be submitted online through Withoutabox.com with the appropriate entry fee, tracking I.D, and a signed release form.
  29. Entries may be emailed to The New American Screenplay Contest if the entry fee has been prepaid directly to the New American Screenplay Contest.
  30. Entry fees are non-refundable. They will not be returned or adjusted under any circumstances.
  31. No cash alternatives to any of the prizes or additional payments shall be made.
  32. The decisions of the judges are final.
  33. The organizers reserve the right to amend these rules and regulations at any time by notice on www.newamericanscreenplaycontest.com

  27. Grand Prize Winner in the feature contest agree to a one year option to produce commencing from the date of the announcment of the grand prize.
  28. If the feature length grand prize winner is optioned and produced, The New American Screenplay Contest and Circus Theatricals Foundation will be the producers of the winning screenplay.
  29. The New American Screenplay Contest and Circus Theatricals Foundation organizers reserve the right to appoint any director, producer, cast and crew to the winning grand prize optioned script.
